We’re pleased to start off the week with a good article on the Rock Academy.  For those of you that missed Sunday’s Citizen-Times, go and have a look at the article which gives you a bit of a window into just what the Rock Academy is.  (Anne Coombs is directing it and the rehearsals take place in the same building as the Asheville Music School West.)  They’re doing amazing things and we’re glad to be featured!

We also wanted to pass along a request.  WNC Parent is holding their Family Choice Awards for 2010.  Voting runs through the end of March and we would greatly appreciate your vote for Best Music Program in Asheville.  It doesn’t take long to fill out online and we greatly appreciate your support in voting for the Asheville Music School as Best Music Program.  Here is a direct link to their form, or you may visit their homepage at WNCMom.com and find the link to vote in the left hand column under “Extras”.  Thanks VERY much for your support.

Instructors Listing for our Asheville Music School West Location

We’ve had quite a bit of excitement the last week or so about our new location on Patton Avenue.  (1408-F Patton Avenue)  If you didn’t already know it’s in Patton Plaza on the lower level behind Music City.  There are lots of things to be excited of course beyond just new paint and a new spot.  There’s the classroom (25’x16′) which we’ve estimated may seat about 40 people with a bit of space to spare.  But, there are a also the local musicians that are taking part and are available to teach at our new location.  Of course, some of our instructors from our Charlotte Street location will be scheduling days over at the West Asheville location as well, but we have had the opportunity to bring in some new instructors to help meet the demand.

If you caught the news item on our Ribbon cutting Tuesday one of the questions left may be…  So, who’s at the new location and what instruments are being taught there?

Anne Coombs is the founder of the Asheville Music School and co-owner of the Patton Avenue location.  She teaches all styles and ages on Guitar.

Jae Sedmak – Guitar

Amy Rae – Voice

Ryan Reardon – Violin, Viola, Cello and Bass

Shayne Heather – Bass

Neal Crowley – Guitar, Fiddle, Mandolin and Banjo.

Delia Lytle Bailey – Flute

Brad Earnhardt – Classical Guitar *He got a bit of a highlight in the WLOS clip of our ribbon cutting.*

Jesse Langlais – Banjo and Dobro

Debbie Davis – Piano

Joey K – Drums

Of course as I noted some of the instructors above also teach at our Charlotte St. location and so the days of the week they are at the Patton Avenue site may vary.  In coming weeks and months we will likely have more to list as our teachers schedules fill up!

–UPDATE 3/31/10–

We’re pleased to be adding another two names to this list:

Brian Turner-Piano
Valerie Poullette-Violin

While lessons have already started over at our new Asheville Music School West location, we are still waiting for the official Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting.  That will take place at 11AM on the 23rd of March (next Tuesday!!!)

Here’s the official announcement information:

Bringing a SOUND education to West Asheville:

In the  Spring of  1996, The first  Music  School in Asheville opened its doors to the community and surrounding area. 14 years later Anne Coombs its Founder and former Director and Paul Thorpe, Director since 2002 have joined forces and expanded to bring a ‘Sound’ education to the west side of town. They hope to bring the same quality and excellence in music education that has made the original location such a success over the years.
Please join us in celebrating our Grand Opening and official Ribbon Cutting on Tuesday March 23rd at 11am. There will be light refreshments and a drawing for a free month of music lessons.  The west location is located at 1408 Patton Avenue in Patton Plaza in the same building as Music City.  Just past Haywood Road. The school is located in the rear of the building for more information, please contact Anne Coombs@ 252-1888

Yard Sale for the Rock Academy

The Yard Sale is on for Saturday April 24th 8AM til 2PM at the Reynolds Fire Department (at the entrance of Reynolds HS on Charlotte HWY.).  It’s goal is to raise money to send the budding rock stars at the Music Schools Rock Academy to the Orange Peel.

We need to make this a big one.  If you are thinking of getting rid of anything at all DON’T.  We’ll take it for the sale.  We’ll start collecting things immediately.  You can bring them to Rock Class or if you have big stuff you can drop it off at Reynolds Fire Dept. on Friday April 23 between 6 and 8:30.  If that doesn’t work I’ll come and get it from you!!  Please give word to your friends, relatives, anyone who you think will donate stuff.  If you have any questions…. call Toni at 299-0091.

We’re also thinking of combining it with a bake sale, since there is a big kitchen counter in the space we’ll be using.  What do you think?
